Nikki and I were strolling down University Avenue in Palo Alto, when we came across a burger joint called Wahlburgers. We were all: "wait, Wahlberg, like that actor from The Happening? He has a burger place??" Turn out, yes, the Wahlberg family does indeed have a restaurant. But then we saw Mac and Cheese on the menu, and we definitely had to try the place out.
We ordered a single Mac to share. The noodles were penne. The sauce was cheddar, smoked mozzarella, and "government cheese". And it came topped with garlic parmesan panko breadcrumbs, as well as crispy bacon. The bacon was alright, but the rest of the Mac was pretty lackluster. The noodles were noticeably undercooked. And the cheese was honestly flavorless. I seriously struggled to taste any cheese in there. It was mostly just a bland thick cream. I was disappointed, but the burgers were alright at least. And their tater tots and beer were both pretty dope. And they had this strange Ranch dipping sauce for the tots that used red wine vinegarette in it. Which I initially found too tangy and off-putting, but it did start growing on me...
Overall, we probably won't come back. There are simply better burgers closer to us than Palo Alto. But if you find yourself in the area, hey, their tots are great!
