After walking down the Rue du Petit-Champlain in Old Québec, Nikki and I went searching for a place to eat. We checked out Sapristi Champlain, a casual French restaurant in the area, and we were excited to discover that they had Mac and Cheese on the menu! What luck, we weren't even looking for Mac and Cheese!
We were seated at a small table by a window, which introduced a mild refreshing breeze. Our dishes came with free starters, so I also ordered myself a small Caeser salad, which was far better than a free starter has any right to be: the dressing was delicious, the lettuce crisp, the bacon tasty, and the croutons were packed with flavor and never even got soggy. What a delight! And when the Mac and Cheese came out, I was blown away by its crisp presentation. The serving size was a little small, but the dish used actual macaroni noodles (a rarity) and a blend of 5 cheeses in the sauce: Cantonnier, 1608, parmesan, cheddar Perron, and mozzarella. I don't have the most refined palate, so I doubt I'd be able to pick any of those cheeses out from the rest. But everything was delicious and worked really well together, so they must know what they're doing!
So yeah, try out Sapristi Champlain if you ever find yourself on Old Québec. Such a lovely experience!
