Nikki and I elected to go to the Rainforest Cafe, a kitschy restaurant chain that features a rainforest atmosphere, numerous screaming animatronic animals, as well as regular "thunderstorms" where they play loud sound effects and flicker the lights. We thought it'd be funny to visit them after seeing a pair of viral youtube videos a while back, and after seeing that Mac and Cheese was on the menu, we knew it was happening.
We arrived in the late afternoon, and were seated between two screaming elephants, and immediately we knew we were in for the true Rainforest Cafe experience. Our waitress was a delight (even if she was giving us the hard sell on some reward cards or something) and we soon ordered up our Mac and Cheese. (As well as some Safari Fries and a few drinks.)
The Mac and Cheese itself was reasonably passable. They opted to use penne noodles (not macaroni) and had a fairly loose sauce made of asiago, cheddar, and parmesan cheeses. It tasted alright but was overall a little bland. The dish was helped by the stuff they mixed in, with a good amount of andouille sausage, shrimp, and seasoned breadcrumbs. Those bits were fine, but the tomatoes and vegetables were pretty underwhelming. The dish also came with some garlic (?) bread that looked like it could be focaccia or something, but actually seemed to be hardtack, as far a I can tell.
So all-in-all, not terrible, but I doubt I'd come back to get it again. But hey, at least we got some light-up souvenir cups! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
